The eyewear brand has agreed a lease with The Crown Estate for a new store at 68 Jermyn Street, further enhancing St James’s position as the home of British craftsmanship.

Opening in July 2016, Jermyn Street will be the fourth physical store for Cubitts and will be distinct from the brand’s other offerings, with a focus on premium bespoke eyewear, handmade in England by master frame makers.

It will also be the only place to purchase Cubitts Gold, made-to-measure 18 carat rolled gold spectacles, made at the UK’s oldest spectacles factory, the Algha Works.

The Cubitts St James's store has been created to reflect a modern, progressive approach to a traditional shop design. The facade is being replaced by a sweeping curved glass frontage, hand painted gold leaf sign with traditional joinery and iroko mouldings handmade in Somerset. Inside, custom made brass shelving, walnut cladding and bold geometric tiles will house the Cubitts-designed bespoke consultation table and state-of-the-art testing room.

Later this year, Cubitts St James’s will also debut its unique facial scanning service; a confluence of precision technology and traditional craft, supporting the bespoke and made-to-measure offerings.

The Jermyn Street store will offer full eye testing facilities to the customers of St James’s, including a working optician area for dispensing, adjustments and repairs. The store will also offer bespoke services to local residents and office occupiers, with The Spectacles Atelier providing made-to-measure spectacles and sunglasses.

St James’s is one of London’s most historic and fashionable areas. It brings together the heritage of British artistry and craft with the best in contemporary design. Jermyn Street is a globally recognised destination for menswear and men’s accessories, including leather goods.
