We are one of the UK’s largest rural and coastal landowners, managing and investing in aquaculture, marinas, ports and harbours, and around half of the UK’s shoreline. How is the portfolio performing?
There are no physical processes linking marine aggregate extraction to the natural erosion of the coastline, which has been occurring since prehistory.

Over 15 years our Marine Stewardship Programme invested over £10 million in community projects and scientific research, to support and enhance our marine assets. The review is available to download here.

We continue to work with and promote the aquaculture industry, which supports more than 6,000 jobs in Scotland.
Moorings and marinas
We have over 17,000 licensed moorings around the UK. In general, these are leased to relevant local bodies who in turn license them to boat owners.
Metal detecting on our foreshore requires a permit. We generally seek to encourage access over, and responsible use of, the foreshore, and so make no charge for this permit.
