Promoting sustainable data collection

Our approach to data collection reflects our ambition to minimise our environmental impact.

Data collection using traditional methods and offshore vessels or aircraft involves carbon emission.

Before commissioning new data collection, we work with our partners to see if existing data can be re-used to address evidence gaps that have been identified. One key element to this is open access, the data sharing principle we champion, so data can be found and used by all. All our survey data is freely available through digital tools.

Where there is a need to collect new data, sustainability is a key consideration. We also run survey campaigns to incentivise innovative sustainable data collection methods from the industry.

When developing best-in-class digital tools, we use technologies that don’t harm the environment, such as our carbon neutral cloud-based solutions, and we choose to work with providers who have strong sustainability commitments that align with ours.
