The Windsor Estate

Our approach

We want Windsor to be a model of ecological and environmental best practice

Windsor is a special place. It’s home to one of the largest collections of veteran and ancient oak and beech trees in the world with a huge variety of birds and wildlife.

With its unique blend of habitats, it’s a place where many conservation lessons have been learned and new techniques developed. As such, we want the Windsor Estate to become a model of excellence for environmental and ecological best practice.

It is a working Estate that includes Windsor Great Park, Home Park, Sunninghill Park and Swinley Forest. Around half of the land is designated a Special Protection Area, Special Area of Conservation or Site of Special Scientific Interest. Activities on the Estate include forestry, horticulture, residential and commercial property, and tourism.

Windsor Great Park covers 1,942 hectares (4,800 acres) and includes the award-winning Savill and Valley Gardens, Virginia Water, the tree-lined Long Walk, The Savill Garden & Adventure Play Visitor Centre, as well as sweeping parkland, ancient woodland, and forest trails.

The Estate is also a popular location for commercial filming , ranging from small photo shoots to television dramas and big-screen movies.
